Palace rules.
Night shifts.
A demon at the door.

A Kim Yoo-jung viewing route can change its entire atmosphere simply by changing the room. A palace makes an identity dangerous to reveal. A convenience store turns everyday encounters into recurring complications. An heiress’s carefully managed life becomes something else when a supernatural bodyguard enters it.

Here are three drama entry points and one film companion, selected for the situations her characters must navigate. The romance is organised differently in each: around a secret, an impossible arrangement, a workplace connection or a promise to a friend. Choose the situation that interests you, without needing spoilers about the relationship’s destination.

Match the heroine to your evening

Title Kim’s role The starting attraction
My Demon · drama Do Do-hee Fantasy inside an heiress’s world
Love in the Moonlight · drama Hong Ra-on Disguise and palace romance
Backstreet Rookie · drama Jung Saet-byul Convenience-store comic energy
20th Century Girl · film Na Bo-ra Friendship before first love

My Demon: when control meets the impossible

Kim plays Do Do-hee, a conglomerate heiress whose new bodyguard is Jeong Gu-won, a demon who loses his powers. Netflix’s official introduction identifies the pair and the connection between their predicament and his missing abilities.

This is the most direct starting point when you want fantasy romance in a contemporary setting. Do-hee’s position suggests influence and resources, but the premise introduces a problem that her ordinary methods cannot neatly solve. The bodyguard arrangement also gives the leads a practical reason to remain close. Choose it for a heightened romantic setup where business-world confidence encounters supernatural uncertainty. That collision is the entry point; the mythology and family developments are better discovered episode by episode.

Love in the Moonlight: when identity changes every encounter

Hong Ra-on enters the palace while living disguised as a man and becomes involved with Crown Prince Lee Yeong. KBS World’s character guide pairs Kim with Ra-on and emphasises her humour and wit. The secret is part of the advertised premise, rather than an ending reveal.

Choose this when the pleasure of a romance comes partly from the rules surrounding it. Rank, appearances and what can safely be said give a palace meeting a different charge from a modern date. Ra-on’s resourcefulness supplies a way into that environment without requiring prior knowledge of Korean court history. If My Demon interests you because an unusual arrangement brings two people together, this is a useful comparison: its pressure comes through social position and concealed identity.

Backstreet Rookie: when the familiar setting gets lively

As Jung Saet-byul, Kim becomes a night-shift part-timer at the convenience store run by Choi Dae-hyun. Broadcaster SBS’s character introduction confirms the role and describes the programme as a comic romance built around the store’s round-the-clock activity.

This is your choice for an everyday workplace with an assertive newcomer at its centre. A small shop creates repeated contact: people cannot simply complete one grand encounter and disappear from the story. Saet-byul’s unpredictable energy is a useful contrast with Do-hee’s status or Ra-on’s need to maintain a disguise. Pick it when recurring personalities and comic disruption sound appealing. The setting is ordinary, while the advertised character dynamic is deliberately larger than life.

20th Century Girl: when a promise becomes personal

The film route is Na Bo-ra, a teenager in 1999 who agrees to observe her best friend Yeon-doo’s crush while Yeon-doo travels abroad for surgery. Netflix’s official synopsis explains the task and how Bo-ra’s own feelings complicate it. Its casting announcement gives her full character name.

Choose this for the point where loyalty and first attraction stop fitting neatly together. The period is recent enough to feel recognisable, yet the story looks back at youth through memory. It offers a concentrated introduction to Kim outside a series commitment, but approach it as an emotional coming-of-age film rather than assuming the school setting guarantees a carefree watch. Keeping the later turns unspoiled is particularly worthwhile here.
