CELEBPEDIA / FOUR FACES OF A FAMILIAR PRESENCE

The same calm surface.
Very different consequences.

A reserved expression can suggest several things in a Lee Dong-wook drama: professional discipline, supernatural distance, uncertainty about an unfamiliar feeling or a reason to keep your guard up. That makes tone a better guide to his work than simply picking another romantic lead.

The four choices here cover an ensemble fantasy, a legal-office romance, a supernatural action romance and a psychological thriller. Each uses his presence differently. Consider how much danger you want in the room before choosing the first episode.

Drama Character Viewing mood
Goblin Grim Reaper Supernatural ensemble and melancholy
Touch Your Heart Kwon Jung-rok Romance inside a law office
Tale of the Nine Tailed Lee Yeon Folklore, action and romantic stakes
Strangers from Hell Seo Moon-jo Claustrophobia and suspicion

Goblin: start with an unfamiliar housemate

Lee is the Grim Reaper in Goblin, also titled Guardian: The Lonely and Great God. The drama places him alongside Gong Yoo’s immortal guardian, turning an extraordinary living arrangement into part of its supernatural world. tvN’s early-episode introductions explicitly identify Lee with the reaper and establish the shared-home conflict.

This is a good entry if you like an ensemble whose relationships carry as much interest as the fantasy rules. The character’s formal bearing makes ordinary social situations worth noticing: small misunderstandings can sit beside questions about existence and memory.

Watch from the beginning and leave his complete character history unread. His name and past are better encountered as the story presents them. The Grim Reaper label is enough to orient a new viewer without revealing later connections.

Touch Your Heart: follow the professional who misses social cues

In Touch Your Heart, Lee plays Kwon Jung-rok, a meticulous lawyer at Always Law Firm. His routine changes when actor Oh Yoon-seo, played by Yoo In-na, enters the workplace. tvN’s official character profile describes Jung-rok through diligence, rationality and difficulty navigating interpersonal politics.

Choose this when you want to watch competence in one area coexist with awkwardness in another. He can handle legal work yet still need to understand what a colleague means or why a gesture matters. The office gives those adjustments a recurring setting.

If you enjoyed the actors together in Goblin, this offers a separate fictional relationship in a different environment. Prior knowledge of that drama is unnecessary; start with the actress’s arrival and let the working dynamic form.

Tale of the Nine Tailed: give the fantasy room to move

Lee Yeon is a male gumiho, or nine-tailed fox, living in the modern world. A producer’s pursuit brings him into a fantasy action romance. tvN’s official profile describes a former mountain spirit now dealing with supernatural figures who disturb the human world.

This role supplies a more forceful entry into folklore than the quieter social discomfort of the Grim Reaper. Lee Yeon already knows that extraordinary beings exist; the interest lies in how he operates among them and what his connections demand of him.

Pick it for supernatural encounters with action and romantic stakes. Begin with the 2020 series when following the character’s screen story. The later Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938 is a separate installment, so check the full title before pressing play.

Strangers from Hell: make room for discomfort

Lee’s Seo Moon-jo belongs to the unsettling world surrounding newcomer Yoon Jong-woo, played by Yim Si-wan. Jong-woo moves to Seoul and begins living in a small residence among unfamiliar people. OCN’s introduction establishes that perspective, while its episode guide identifies Moon-jo as the neighboring resident Jong-woo encounters.

The useful viewing question is how much reassurance a friendly manner should provide. Limited living space, unwanted attention and the difficulty of reading other people create a very different atmosphere from an office romance.

Choose this for psychological horror and sustained unease. It contains disturbing violence, so the mood requires more consideration than the familiar face on the poster might suggest. Stop at the premise when browsing descriptions; detailed resident profiles can disclose too much.

Two straightforward routes

For romance, move from Touch Your Heart to Goblin. For supernatural action followed by a darker psychological turn, try Tale of the Nine Tailed and then Strangers from Hell.

Are these connected stories? No. Goblin and Touch Your Heart share lead actors, but their characters and settings are independent. Continue with our Gong Yoo watchlist for another route from Goblin, or our Jung Hae-in guide for further contrasts between romance and tension.
