Pick your kind
of escape.

A rooftop is a good place to begin. So is a courtroom. Or an abandoned amusement park. Ji Chang-wook’s drama catalogue rewards a little genre shopping: the version of him that clicks for an action-romance fan may be a very different discovery from the one a musical viewer takes away.

The four titles here are selected for contrast. Instead of asking which is universally “best,” ask what you want the story to make room for: falling in love, recovering a dream, solving a mystery or surviving a dangerous deception. These introductions stay with the premises and leave the big reveals to the shows.

Four Ji Chang-wook dramas, four different invitations

Drama Ji’s character The invitation
Healer Seo Jeong-hu Action with a romantic centre
Suspicious Partner Noh Ji-wook Legal mystery and attraction
The Sound of Magic Ri-eul Songs, wonder and growing up
The Worst of Evil Park Jun-mo Undercover crime suspense

Healer: if you want romance to travel with the action

Seo Jeong-hu, code-named Healer, completes difficult missions with martial-arts skills, sharp instincts and technological help. His plan for a solitary life changes as he gets to know reporter Chae Yeong-shin. KBS World’s official character guide identifies Ji in the role and sets the story among a mysterious messenger and journalists.

The appeal is the combination: competence in a dangerous situation sits beside uncertainty about letting another person in. Pick Healer when you want action to carry an emotional connection forward, rather than choosing between a thriller and a romance. Journalism and truths from the past give the characters something larger to investigate. You may see the name written as Seo Jung-hoo in other English listings; this guide follows KBS’s Jeong-hu spelling.

Suspicious Partner: if a relationship needs a mystery beside it

Ji plays prosecutor Noh Ji-wook, whose life becomes entangled with judicial trainee Eun Bong-hee. Broadcaster SBS’s introduction describes their growing attraction as the pair experience a mysterious case. Their professional world provides the framework for the romantic story.

This is a good selection when you enjoy people getting close while they have a problem to work through. A legal setting gives questions of trust a practical dimension: believing someone matters beyond the conversation itself. Compared with Healer’s mission skills and physical movement, the initial invitation here comes through the collision of personalities and circumstances. Choose it for romance with a suspense thread, and leave yourself open to the case changing the tone as it develops.

The Sound of Magic: if you want a musical detour

As enigmatic magician Ri-eul, Ji steps into a fantasy music drama alongside students Yoon Ah-yi and Na Il-deung. Netflix’s official trailer announcement connects the three through questions about dreams and becoming an adult. The production featurette guide places Ri-eul in a rundown amusement park and explains how music drives parts of the narrative.

Choose this when you are receptive to emotion expressed through song and imaginative spectacle. The magician offers an alternative to the pressures shaping the students’ lives, but his mystery keeps the premise from becoming straightforward escapism. It is an especially useful next step after an action role because it changes the form of the storytelling itself. The material also includes serious hardship beneath its fantasy imagery.

The Worst of Evil: if you want the cost of keeping a cover

Park Jun-mo is a police investigator who infiltrates a Gangnam criminal organisation in 1990s Seoul. Co-producer Kakao Entertainment’s official overview confirms Ji’s character and the international drug-trade investigation.

This is the hardest-edged route on the list. The central attraction is sustained uncertainty: an undercover assignment requires closeness to people who cannot know why you are really there. Pick it when you want a crime drama to keep pressure on identity and loyalty, with violence and danger integral to the setting. If you came for the buoyancy of a musical or an easy romantic watch, save this title for an evening when that darker atmosphere sounds appealing.

Let your next pick change the register

Pair Healer with The Sound of Magic for the widest shift in style. Pair Suspicious Partner with The Worst of Evil to compare two very different relationships between a protagonist and an investigation.
