Read the room.
Then choose the role.
A school romance, a prince’s private writing life and a grief-driven mystery ask for different kinds of attention. Cha Eun-woo appears in all of them, so a useful introduction begins with the story’s emotional temperature rather than a single idea of his screen persona.
The four dramas below give you a clear choice between youthful romance, an unusual supernatural problem, a period setting and a more sombre search for truth. Notice what each character knows, fears or keeps private. That lens makes the differences easier to see without turning a watchlist into a collection of plot revelations.
Four routes into Cha Eun-woo’s dramas
| Drama | Cha’s role | What draws you in |
| True Beauty | Lee Su-ho | School, appearances and trust |
| A Good Day to Be a Dog | Jin Seo-won | A romantic solution complicated by fear |
| Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung | Prince Yi Rim | Palace life and a secret novelist |
| Wonderful World | Kwon Seon-yul | Shared pain and a guarded mystery |
True Beauty: look beyond the public version
Cha plays Lee Su-ho in a school romance centred on Ju-kyung, who uses make-up as she tries to escape hurtful judgments about her appearance. CJ ENM’s programme overview describes two young people learning to face the world through their connection. The licensed cast listing explicitly identifies Cha as Su-ho.
Choose it if the appeal of a romance is being understood beyond an image. The school setting makes being seen feel especially consequential: classmates create an audience as well as a social circle. Su-ho’s place in that story offers a romantic entry point, but bullying and insecurity are part of the setup. It suits an evening when you want youthful relationships with an emotional problem underneath the comic situations.
A Good Day to Be a Dog: let the premise do something odd
Jin Seo-won is afraid of dogs. Unfortunately, he becomes entangled with Han Hae-na, a woman cursed to turn into a dog after a kiss. MBC’s official casting introduction verifies Cha’s role and the central contradiction. The unusual situation is the advertised starting point, so knowing it does not give away the resolution.
This is the choice for viewers happy to accept a playful fantasy rule and see how it complicates ordinary contact. What might seem like a simple romantic step becomes difficult because the person needed to help has a fear of his own. Compared with True Beauty’s concern about appearances, the obstacle here is more literal and strange. Pick it when you want the relationship to develop around a problem that could only exist in this fictional world.
Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung: find the writer inside the palace
As Prince Yi Rim, Cha plays a lonely royal who also writes romance novels. His world intersects with Goo Hae-ryung, an aspiring historian entering the palace. Netflix’s launch announcement confirms the character pairing and the nineteenth-century Joseon setting.
Choose this when you want romance to sit beside questions about whose words get heard and recorded. A prince with a private creative identity makes an interesting partner for a woman pursuing an official intellectual role. The period setting changes the constraints around their meetings: personal wishes exist inside rank and convention. It is a useful move after a contemporary school drama if you want a broader social setting while keeping a developing relationship near the centre.
Wonderful World: keep your questions open
Cha’s Kwon Seon-yul enters the story of Eun Su-hyun, whose life has been devastated by loss. The official licensed synopsis and cast list identify his role and describe two people carrying secrets as they move toward the truth.
This is the clearest tonal departure on the list. Choose it for a mystery in which grief and incomplete knowledge shape how encounters are understood. It rewards arriving without a detailed character explanation, so avoid searching for Seon-yul’s full history before watching. Unlike the three romantic starting points above, the invitation here is to observe a difficult connection and ask what remains hidden. Loss, revenge and violence belong to its emotional landscape.
Choose by contrast, then keep exploring
True Beauty and Wonderful World make the widest comparison in mood. A Good Day to Be a Dog and Rookie Historian offer unusual romantic constraints in very different settings.
