CELEBPEDIA / THE CAST EDIT
One family. Different decades. A few names that make everything click.
The When Life Gives You Tangerines cast becomes easier to follow once you know two things: IU plays both Oh Ae-sun and Ae-sun’s daughter, Yang Geum-myeong; Moon So-ri and Park Hae-joon play the older versions of Ae-sun and Gwan-sik. A familiar face can therefore signal either a new chapter or a different generation.
Here is a spoiler-light reference for international viewers who want the names straight before getting swept up in the story.

The cast map to keep open
| Performer | Character |
| IU | Oh Ae-sun; Yang Geum-myeong |
| Park Bo-gum | Yang Gwan-sik |
| Moon So-ri | Older Ae-sun |
| Park Hae-joon | Older Gwan-sik |
| Yeom Hye-ran | Jeon Gwang-rye, Ae-sun’s mother |
| Kang You-seok | Yang Eun-myeong, the couple’s son |
Why does IU appear under two names?
Netflix’s official cast guide credits IU with both Ae-sun and Geum-myeong. Keep the relationship beside the name: Ae-sun is Geum-myeong’s mother. Geum-myeong belongs to the next generation of the family.
When a scene changes period, look for the character name and the people around her before relying on the actor’s face. In a family story, recognising a performer and identifying a character are two different steps. That small habit helps you follow the drama while leaving room for its emotional connections to arrive naturally.
Who plays the older couple?
Moon So-ri takes the role of older Ae-sun, while Park Hae-joon plays older Gwan-sik. Their casting connects the young couple’s lives to later chapters; these are continuing characters rather than a second, unrelated pair.
A useful viewing note has two lines: “Ae-sun: IU / Moon So-ri” and “Gwan-sik: Park Bo-gum / Park Hae-joon.” Keep IU’s separate Geum-myeong credit underneath. You have now separated changes in age from changes in identity, without needing an episode-by-episode family tree.
The timeline follows a lifetime
Netflix’s official trailer announcement describes a story extending from Jeju in the 1960s to Seoul in 2025. That broad span matters more for a first watch than memorising every date.
Track the generation, the setting and the central relationship as you move between chapters. Leave space in your notes for details that the drama has not introduced yet. Cast searches often lead directly to plot summaries, so a compact role list is a gentler companion when you want to preserve the discoveries.
The family extends beyond the leads
Yeom Hye-ran plays Ae-sun’s mother, Jeon Gwang-rye. Kang You-seok plays Yang Eun-myeong, Ae-sun and Gwan-sik’s son. Adding those relationships to the main four performers gives you a practical starting map.
For further names, check the official credits after an episode. Write down the role that actually appeared, rather than trying to learn the complete ensemble at once. This is a story you can follow through relationships, with a cast guide ready whenever you need a quick reminder.
